Thursday, October 14 | 3:00PM–3:50PM | Ballroom A
Session Type: E2010
This presentation will introduce the concept of macro solutions: collaborative solutions that adopt a larger-scale perspective to achieve a more efficient and cost-effective nationwide system of academic libraries and higher education. Common to these efforts are strong regional coalitions; goals of federating shared resources and interests; and a dependency on participating institutions to provide and manage assets. The focus will be on emerging projects among libraries and IT services, particularly university presses. Many are failing or operating with self-defeating business models; a new approach that includes a large collaborative effort anchored by interoperable digital publishing platforms is essential for future scholarly productivity. This rethinking will require exceptional leadership.
