Seminar 08A - Crafting a Sustainable Second Life Support Model for Your Campus

Tuesday, November 03 | 9:30AM–1:00PM | Korbel Ballroom 4C
Session Type: E09 Hybrid
Is your campus ready to expand the use of Second Life beyond a few early adopters? If you would like to offer a campus-wide Second Life program, support faculty in using this virtual world in their teaching, and understand the various resources required, this half-day workshop will help you define a sustainable support model based on your campus's needs and resources. The presenters will share what they have learned during the development of Clemson's Second Life IT support model.

This workshop will show you how to assess your campus needs and evaluate the technical, financial, and human resources required for a sustainable campus support model for Second Life. Learn about purchasing, setting up, and administering land; developing policies; establishing a sustainable training program; and defining a realistic support model. Seminar leaders will host four subsequent one-hour sessions in Second Life for seminar attendees. Those who choose to attend these sessions may review and continue development of a model for their campuses, after they have had the opportunity to further define their own needs for a Second Life support model.

Prerequisite: You should be adept at Second Life communication and navigation skills. A Wi-Fi-enabled laptop, with the Second Life client preinstalled, is required for the workshop's hands-on activities. Please see the Second Life system requirements page to ensure your laptop meets the minimum requirements.
