Seminar 11P - Using the Quality Matters Rubric to Improve Online Course Design

Tuesday, November 03, 2009 | 2:00PM–5:30PM | Meeting Room 303
Session Type: E09 Hybrid
Join a lively discussion on improving online course design. What standards lead to quality online courses? How are they applied? What is alignment, and why is it essential to student success? The objective of this workshop is to teach faculty and administrators how to use the Quality Matters (QM) rubric to improve online courses. We will use this nationally recognized tool to guide us through the course design process.

The QM rubric provides a research-supported framework with annotations and examples for applying quality practices to specific course design standards. These standards cover eight areas: Course Overview and Introduction, Learning Objectives (Competencies), Assessment and Measurement, Resources and Materials, Learner Interaction, Course Technology, Learner Support, and Accessibility. You will come away with a clearer sense of where your courses can be improved, new ideas for course development, and a notion of how online course quality can become a core institutional concept.
