Manakin, the new interface development toolkit for DSpace, is an exciting technology that allows for extensive customization of the default DSpace interfaces. Manakin gives institutions considerable power to brand and theme DSpace interfaces to match local web styles, introduce new interface elements and features, and create new ways for users to interact with objects in the DSpace repository. In this workshop, you will learn about the goals and needs behind the creation of Manakin and examine case studies in which it has been deployed. We will review, at a high level, the technology and architecture of Manakin and cover the three options for introducing Manakin customizations into DSpace. We will also explore campus options for implementation and the resources required for each option, including staff skills.
