Seminar 13A - Identity Management for CIOs: Leveraging Federations

Tuesday, November 03, 2009 | 9:30AM–1:00PM | Korbel Ballroom 3B
Session Type: E09 Hybrid
Two challenges facing the higher education community are managing security and privacy and integrating software as a service (SaaS), or cloud computing, into the IT organization. This seminar is designed to explain how your identity management system can provide a foundation for these activities. We will explain how you can leverage two solutions developed by higher education—Shibboleth and the InCommon Federation—to create a robust IT architecture that can also enhance security and privacy.

Demonstrations and discussion will provide you with a detailed understanding of (1) how identity management systems fit into a robust IT architecture that can enhance security and privacy, (2) how campuses can leverage standards-based solutions like SAML and the InCommon Federation to simplify collaboration with other campuses or vendors, and (3) how to use the concept of "level of assurance" to support a comprehensive security and privacy program.
