Seminar 19A - Understanding and Managing ADA and Section 508 Web Accessibility in Higher Education

Tuesday, November 03 | 9:30AM–1:00PM | Korbel Ballroom 1D
Session Type: E09 Hybrid
This seminar will address the needs of people with disabilities and how to develop a best-practices approach to implementing federal section 508 standards and W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines to meet section 504 requirements for higher education. We will present tools and techniques for managing and implementing accessible design within the higher education environment. Institutions of higher education can work together to improve the accessibility of purchased web resources and services by using a collaboration model and by developing a common set of purchasing requirements.

We will present a best-practices approach to accessible web design and address how institutional collaboration and cooperation lead to improvements in web accessibility. We will demonstrate how accessible design benefits all users by providing developers with a more efficient and cost-effective way of creating and maintaining web resources and by giving users greater flexibility and more options in accessing and using web resources.
