Seminar 07P - Research and Evaluation Methods for Librarians and Information Technology Professionals

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 | 2:00PM–5:30PM | Meeting Room 207B
Session Type: E2010
Increasingly library and information technology leaders are being called on to carry out research or evaluation projects as a central part of their job responsibilities. Sometimes this research is required to inform practice, for example, by doing evidence-based needs analysis. At other times, library and IT leaders need to conduct evaluation of their initiatives in order to assess the impact, derive lessons learned or show the return on investment. At still other times, these leaders are called upon to interpret and use the results of research and evaluation activities done by others. However, few IT professionals or librarians have the necessary skills or language to be able to do this research or evaluation. This seminar is designed to address that knowledge gap. Attendees will learn how to design good research and evaluation projects and develop hands-on skills in most of the major methods used.
