Seminar 10P - Adopting and Implementing an Open-Source Course Management System: Piecing Together the Puzzle for Optimal Success

Tuesday, October 12, 2010 | 2:00PM–5:30PM | Meeting Room 303A
Session Type: E2010
Once the extensive decision-making process for adopting an open-source course management system is complete, how does the completed implementation puzzle look? What will be the university's contribution to the collaborative product? What are the tangible pieces to this puzzle that must be exposed, rearranged, and organized? The multiple strategies necessary for the transition, the implementation, the support, and the participation and contributions within a collaborative open-source initiative are a few of the interlocking pieces that are shared by commercial solutions as well. This engaging interactive seminar will enable attendees to explore and experience organizational implementation steps and strategies that affect transitions to the new CMS, faculty and administrative support, and the fostering of a collaborative community. Through investigative and synergetic activities, participants will piece together the puzzle which portrays the interconnected factors of both successful open-source or commercial CMS adoption and implementation within the academic community.
