Seminar 02F - Legal Issues Every Higher Ed Technology Professional Should Understand (separate registration required)

Tuesday, November 06, 2012 | 9:00AM–5:00PM | Mile High Ballroom 4A/4B
Session Type: E12

Laws and regulations governing college technology use are complex and changing. We'll explain, in language that's accessible to nonlawyers, some of the salient legal and policy issues affecting higher education technology professionals (including issues that arise over the course of 2012) and, through discussion of emerging laws, regulations, and policies, provide technology professionals with the tools necessary to formulate and update campus policies. We'll discuss technology contracting and give an update on the current state of federal law and regulation governing peer-to-peer file sharing and other digital copyright issues (including laws under consideration by Congress). Additionally, we'll discuss digital defamation and cyberbullying, the latest regulations and case law governing e-discovery and records management, social media policies, and recent export controls issues that affect college campuses, using case studies and interactive participation.
