Laws and regulations governing college technology use are complex and changing. This presentation will explain, in language that is accessible to nonlawyers, some of the salient legal and policy issues affecting higher education technology professionals (including issues that arise over the course of 2013) and, through discussion of emerging laws, regulations, and policies, provide technology professionals with the tools necessary to formulate and update campus policies. This session will discuss technology contracting and update attendees on the current state of federal law and regulation governing copyright (including laws under consideration by Congress). Additionally, the speakers will discuss digital defamation and cyberbullying, the latest regulations and case law governing e-discovery and records management, BYOD, social media policies, and recent export controls issues. Other legal issues of interest that arise during the year will also be included. This interactive presentation will include significant use of case studies and attendee discussions.
