The EDUCAUSE 2014 Top-Ten IT issues list presents a call to action to develop a common understanding of the transformative nature of information technology between institutional IT leaders and academic leaders. CIOs, senior IT leaders, and managers should gain a clear understanding of the forces and dynamics that drive higher education, with particular attention to the interplay between IT and academic affairs, in order to facilitate a close and clear dialogue. Gain insight into how to monitor external constituencies that influence chief academic officers and how to navigate the environment to nurture fruitful relationships. Identify how to develop relationships and partnerships and establish dialogue among all leadership to facilitate meaningful participation among a broad range of stakeholders. Share successes for "leading upward" and be accepted as a strategic partner.
OUTCOMES: Apply anecdotal strategies discussed to your own institutional environment * Understand the perspective of academic leaders and the lenses they use * Compare examples given of relationship building and management to your setting
