First Amendment Issues in Cyberspace and BYOT on Campus and at Home

Although higher education technology professionals may wish to spend their days working on the systems and services that make their campuses go, legal issues creep up in many corners of the field. This session will address the application of First Amendment principles to the digital sphere and privacy issues associated with employee use of technology at work and at home.


OUTCOMES: Understand the importance of working with in-house or outside counsel on complicated legal issues * Understand the applicability of the First Amendment to public colleges (and private colleges by policy) and its impact on web programming and commentary * Learn about managing the rights, responsibilities, and expectations of employees when allowing them access to campus systems and information with personal devices
