Reclaiming Audacity

Thursday, October 29, 2015 | 9:00AM–9:50AM | Sagamore Ballroom 5
Session Type: Professional Development
We live in interesting times. On the one hand, the combination of ubiquitous access and networked communities has the potential to transform education on a scale comparable to Gutenberg's 15th-century invention of moveable type, which arguably inked the Reformation, the rise of democracy, and the Enlightenment. On the other hand, higher education finds itself increasingly constrained—by budgets, regulations, a narrowing definition of what it means to be "educated," and a demographic bubble that has moved to health care. How should we respond to these opportunities and constraints? The speaker will argue that achieving the transformative future is critically dependent on the audacity of our shared vision and actions.

Outcomes: Assess perspectives about strategies and tactics that are needed to transform higher education * Accept the leadership challenges at hand by moving from vision to action * Apply informed public policy and advocacy efforts to the conversation
