Implementing Shibboleth for the Tufts University Science Knowledgebase (TUSK)

Wednesday, February 09, 2005 | 9:00AM–9:00AM
Session Type: Resources
TUSK is a database-driven information and knowledge management system that has been developed over the past 9 years in response to the specific needs of health science students and faculty. TUSK is currently used by more than 2000 students at Tufts and also by several other medical schools, including New York Medical College, Boston University and New York University. Built using open-source tools and with an architecture based on open standards, TUSK is adopting Shibboleth as a means of facilitating the sharing of content among institutions. Both identity-provider and service-provider functionality have been installed at Tufts and testing is currently underway. Results of this project are encouraging but our work has also highlighted several issues associated with joint medical school and central IT initiatives that present challenges even in a highly-collaborative institution dedicated to I2 middleware.
