Session Type:
Professional Development
Identity theft has become a hot topic, with near daily reports about thousands or millions of lost or stolen personal records. Laws have been passed or are being considered in the states and in Congress to mandate tighter security for companies storing personal records and notification when data is compromised. Spyware also presents a threat to keeping personal information or institutional data confidential. This session will review some of the recent incidents, legislative and regulatory approaches, and potential technology solutions, as well as their impact on higher education.
