This session illustrates lessons learned and provides recommendations for institutions contemplating the support of open source applications while maintaining enterprise-level vendor software. In 2004 and 2005, Virginia Tech introduced an open source portfolio and course management system (Sakai) and realized the additional support needs of open source products.
