Single sign-on, a desired feature for many higher education institutions, allows a user to sign on once in one application and be granted access to all other applications. The key components of the single sign-on solution from PeopleSoft to third-party applications include the interface that PeopleSoft provides (PRTL_SS_CI); the PSREDIR (PeopleSoft Redirect) Java application locally deployed by University of Nebraska–Lincoln; and a third-party application that verifies a signature (HMAC-SHA1 of the username and timestamp).
