Legal Basics for IT Professionals

Wednesday, March 16 | 10:30AM–11:15AM | Camelot/Third Floor
Session Type: Professional Development
Whose laws does your campus IT department have to obey? Who can sue you for noncompliance? Why do public and private institutions have different legal requirements? Do students from other states or other countries require special consideration? What's the difference between a law and a statute, between a subpoena and a warrant? Increasingly, a law degree is needed to manage day-to-day campus IT. In this panel, two experts on campus IT policy and law will provide that basic background to help you navigate your way through the growing thicket of laws and lawyers.

This session is sponsored by ICPL, the Institute for Computer Policy and Law.
