Elon's Biology Cabinet: An IT/Faculty Partnership in Online Resource Development

Thursday, June 02, 2011 | 11:45AM–12:30PM | Grand Ballroom Salons A-C
Session Type: Professional Development
Laboratory courses have been the "active learning" experiences in the physical sciences for centuries. In today's academy the connection between these courses and the practice of science is sometimes tenuous. Some faculty and technologists at Elon University are attempting to leverage faculty time and technologist expertise to create online resources that support student engagement with the principles and processes of science in the lab. We will discuss the creative model we are developing and the accompanying video resources we are producing, as well as the model's implications for redefining the collaborative nexus of the faculty/technologist relationship in instructional resource development.
