The new reality for higher education IT is one of constant change and increased complexity on a base of shrinking resources. Such a context, however, provides a perfect opportunity to develop (or hone) internal and external campus relationships to collaboratively deliver IT solutions and services in financially creative ways. This session will delve into those goals and how IT can best do its part to meet the needs of our institutions. You'll hear how one campus is moving ahead in concrete ways. Come prepared to contribute to the conversation and the session takeaways. How are you working towards similar initiatives on your campus? What organizational changes have been made? What cross-institutional relationships and teams are you a part of? Do they contribute to or impede progress?
ABOUT EDWARD WALTON
Mr. Walton is Chief Financial Officer for the University of South Carolina. Since joining USC in 1997, Mr. Walton has held a number of position including Director of Cost and Contract & Grant Accounting; Chief Financial Officer of the USC Research Foundation; Director of Administration and Finance for the Division of Research and Health Sciences; Associate Provost for Finance and Administration; Associate Vice President for operations with responsibility of university financial systems for accounting and collections, in addition to serving as CFO of the Research Foundation and Health Sciences South Carolina.
Mr. Walton is a summa cum laude graduate of St. Leo College in Tampa., Fla. An eight (8) year veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he holds memberships in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Government Finance Officers Association, and the National Council of University Research Administrators.
ABOUT GEORGE LAMPL:
George joined the University of South Carolina's Office of General Counsel in January 1999. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 1992, practiced with Ogletree, Deakins, Nash, Smoak & Stewart, P.C., between 1992 and 1997, and with Gibbes, Gallivan, White & Boyd, P.A., between 1997 and 1998.
George has tried cases in state and federal court and has argued cases before arbitration panels. He has experience in a variety of legal areas, including procurement, construction, copyright, trademark, employment, bankruptcy and environmental law. He has represented the University of South Carolina in state court and in hearings before the South Carolina Procurement Review Panel, the South Carolina Chief Procurement Officers for Construction, Goods and Services, and Information Technology, the South Carolina Employment Security Commission, and the Employment Security Commission Appeals Tribunal. George also serves on the University of South Carolina's Intellectual Property, Environmental Advisory, and Conflict of Interest Committees. He works with University of South Carolina Information Technology staff on a regular basis, and he recently helped negotiate the University's ERP contract in connection with OneCarolina, the University's multi-year project to modernize, streamline, and enhance academic and administrative services.
George received his J.D. from the University of Tennessee College of Law, where he was a Harold C. Warner Scholar and served as an editor of The Tennessee Law Review. He received his B.A. degree from Bucknell University in 1989.
