Wednesday, February 23, 2011 | 2:45PM–3:45PM | Governor's Ballroom Foyer
Session Type: Professional Development, WSWRC11
By mobilizing distributed IT, the network security group, the help desk, and the CIO, the University of Oregon's central IT organization not only addressed what had been a significant spam, phishing, and malware problem but also developed a highly effective inbound and outbound e-mail security and filtering system, which it now provides free to other departmental units and senior administration. T his system has saved, by conservative estimates, hundreds of thousands of dollars. How are central IT and distributed IT working together to address a campus-wide e-mail security issue, and what have been the benefits for faculty, staff, students, and the IT organization?
