Not Dead Yet! Is the University Computer Lab Still Relevant?

Thursday, February 24, 2011 | 10:30AM–11:15AM | Governor's Ballroom Salon A
Session Type: Professional Development, WSWRC11
Last year's ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Technology found 98% computer ownership among undergraduates, with 88% of that being laptops. Given near ubiquity of student computer ownership and faced with increasing economic and environmental challenges, is the computer lab obsolete? Did the "mobile revolution" kill it? This presentation will discuss the current state of the computer lab as an effective learning environment and how changes in availability of mobile technology to students are driving changes in the lab. We'll look at where the computer lab is headed and how IT service organizations can adapt to changing needs of students.
