We believe that we communicate every day, so why do we write, study, and talk about communication so much? In the words of George Bernard Shaw, "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place." How do we fall victim to this illusion, and how can we break free of it and know we have communicated effectively? Some basic tenets can help you improve communication, whether it's with your staff, your boss, the board of trustees, or your spouse. We'll offer practical advice for improving your communication skills, with a dash of theory thrown in for good measure.
