The Path from an LMS to a Learning Platform

Wednesday, February 22, 2012 | 5:45PM–6:30PM | Broadway IV, Plaza Level
Session Type: Professional Development
Learning management systems have traditionally provided a tool set that accommodates essential teaching and learning tasks at a rudimentary level but have failed to translate many nuanced or innovative ideas to the online environment. We'll explore a number of case studies and examples from schools nationwide that demonstrate how new technology in Instructure's Canvas platform can amplify fidelity, bring humanness to online courses, and encourage reflection and analysis to support new approaches to online and blended education. We'll also look at how the transition from a monolithic LMS to an open, interoperable learning platform will allow educators and designers to connect formal classroom instruction with the informal lifelong learning that's critical to success today.
