Improv! Improve! Recruiting and Retaining a Diverse Workforce

Wednesday, March 02, 2016 | 2:00PM–3:00PM | Colorado Ballroom GH, Lower Level 2
Session Type: Professional Development
Join us for a bit of improv as we explore and practice behaviors that can lead to the recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce. Bernadette McMahon along with Beth Schaefer and Deborah Keyek-Franssen, founders of the Women in IT Constituent Group, will facilitate a highly interactive session that will help you diversify your IT unit on campus through improved recruitment and retention practices. Research shows that diverse teams outperform teams without gender and racial diversity, and even high-ability problem solvers (e.g., http://www.pnas.org/content/101/46/16385.short). Changing results means changing behaviors based on new knowledge. This session will give you both knowledge and opportunities to practice new behaviors.

OUTCOMES: Recognize behaviors that discourage recruitment and retention of a diverse workforce * Explore research on unconscious bias * Develop and practice alternative behaviors to encourage diverse recruitment and retention
