Shepherding Information for the Enterprise

Thursday, July 12, 2012 | 2:15PM–3:45PM | Robert E. Perry Room, Third Floor
Session Type: Professional Development
It isn't just about technology. More than ever, the CIO spends time on policy, security, compliance and legal issues. The territory spans federal statutes on copyright to state laws on data breach reporting all the way to the campus Acceptable Use Policy. You're not a lawyer but you have a critical role to play and innate responsibility. What happens when things get gray? This session will explore the role of CIO in balancing the availability and protection of campus information. We'll look at current issues, including how "bring-your-own-device" challenges the status quo.

Objectives:

  • Recognize important security and compliance issues
  • Develop strategies for working with campus counsel, risk managers, and other key partners.

Presenters

  • Chris Haile

CIO, Emeritus, University at Albany, SUNY
  • Karen Leach
