Travel to Northwestern for an up close look at two key IT initiatives:
Organizing for MOOCs and Online Education: Like many universities with a long tradition of providing a high-quality, on-campus, residential teaching and learning experiences, Northwestern University is exploring the design and delivery of MOOCs with Coursera and as member of Semester Online, a consortium of leading universities. These efforts at Northwestern has required the rapid development of new governance and coordination structures. This session will explore the current governance, partnership and resource agreements that have been put in place at Northwestern to assure the success of our faculty efforts and student learning.
Visualizing Research Data in 3D (limited to 20 people): Visualization gives scientists the ability to walk around their data, pull it apart, and alter the drawing methodologies used to create the visual representation of their data with the goal of gaining insight not possible by looking at the raw data formats. Northwestern University's visualization engineers make use ultra high-speed microprocessors and powerful graphic engines to render 3D stereo images of lifelike clarity and character on a 52 million pixel tiled wall display.
