Presentation is particularly challenging in leadership contexts, when time is often very limited and the specter of digital distraction is anywhere/anytime. Hence it is key that these kinds of presentations be carefully planned and designed. The aim of this session is to provide an opportunity to reflect on best practices in presentation design. The session brings into relief the important decisions we must make when designing a presentation. While particular emphasis is given to slide design, the session also addresses the complementary relationship of what our slides "say" and what we will be saying in the course of the presentation.

Objectives:

• Have a better understanding of the complementary relationship of slides and speech
• Understand the importance of visual elements in slide design
• Be able to plan a presentation for human attention patterns
• Understand the expert/novice distinction in presentation planning
• Feel encouraged to experiment with more creative slide designs
