Seeing the Forest and the Trees: Tying Innovation to Institutional Vision

Tuesday, July 24, 2018 | 9:00AM–10:30AM CT | Great Lakes C, Fourth Floor
Session Type: General Session
The only thing constant is change, especially in information technology. Effective leaders must understand the changing context in which decisions are made. Our goal for this session is to develop a framework for making decisions and choices about innovation that are in sync with your institutional context. The term "strategic innovation" suggests the inherent tension between innovation and the existing strategic directions of the institution. We are searching for ways to hold onto both threads and make this a productive and creative tension, rather than innovating for its own sake or becoming stagnant. We will discuss strategies to identify high-impact innovations, develop effective implementation plans, and tell stories that highlight success and drive your institutional vision forward.

Outcomes: Identify your institution's mission and vision in order to maintain a relevant strategy for your team * Develop methods to articulate what innovations you are currently invested in, what you can move away from, and what to focus on for the future * Identify ways to tell your team's story, focus on success, and drive your institutional vision forward
