Tuesday, July 24, 2018 | 1:00PM–2:30PM CT | Great Lakes C, Fourth Floor
Session Type: General Session
The role of learning technology leaders is to seed ideas and educational technologies on campus, sometimes in the face of resistance from faculty and other members of the campus community. These leaders may face challenges in managing and persuading governance groups and in aligning the broader campus community around opportunities for change. Leaders must build political and cultural capital and influence decisions at organizational, departmental, and school levels. This session will prompt a discussion of various toolsets, strategies, and data sources from which leaders can build cultural and political capital and influence decisions within complex academic contexts.

Outcomes: Identify various strategies of influence and pinpoint strategies you are most adept at using * Critically evaluate strategies for developing cultural and political capital at your institution * Reflect on approaches to using design thinking, systems thinking, and data to make and influence decisions * Discuss how implementing decisions can damage or enhance influence
