Sometimes the players and the structures in our higher ed world don't seem logical. Understanding the history of higher education in the United States can help us make sense—of rituals, organizing principles, values and culture, and the behavior of faculty, researchers, and students—allowing us to better serve all of our constituents.


Objectives :
  • Identify historical characteristics evident in our current institutions
  • Evaluate institutional missions, goals, and challenges vis-a-vis the development of a uniquely US higher ed system
