Leading and Learning: Bringing the Liberal Arts Online through Coursera

In the fall of 2012, Wesleyan University became the first liberal arts college to join Coursera in delivering MOOCs. Since then, we have delivered 12 courses in a variety of disciplines that span all academic divisions. To date, we have enrolled over 400,000 students (28% of whom lack a college degree) from 171 countries. In this presentation, we will discuss our institutional motivations for these pedagogical explorations, the resources required to execute the different modes of delivery, and the impact that our faculty's experiences have had on their face-to-face courses, and on the campus conversations around pedagogical innovation.
