Leading a Cohort of Faculty to Water: Make Sure They Take Small Sips

Monday, February 09, 2015 | 3:15PM–4:00PM
Session Type: Professional Development
This presentation provides a model for transitioning from traditional point-and-click instructional technology training to a program that emphasizes the pedagogy of course redesign and deployment. Instructional designers from the UMD Division of Information Technology developed a series of five two-hour workshops that progressively led a cohort of 16 faculty through the process of rethinking content development, assessment, student engagement and student support for a fully online course. The workshop content was housed in the university LMS, and best practices of LMS tool use were employed in the delivery of the instruction; however, the workshops were not about the LMS itself.
