Mashing Up Academic Resources to Create a New Learning Space

Thursday, February 04, 2016 | 11:15AM–12:00PM
Session Type: Professional Development
When the Stony Brook University Athletic Training Program wanted to modernize its method for imparting continuing education credits to professionals, neither the university's LMS nor the MOOC platform made a good match. Instead, we used WordPress, Qualtrics, Echo360, and transcription/captioning services to create a new simple and open learning space. We created a robust site with indexed and searchable videos, embedded assessments, and a simple reporting back end that is very user accessible and generates revenue for the department.

OUTCOMES: Identify services that can be redeployed to create a new learning environment * Understand how the captions and transcripts work to create a more accessible course for all students * Learn briefly about embedding code from one web service into another
