The Secret to Learning Space Design

Tuesday, February 02 | 3:15PM–4:00PM | Texas Ballroom Foyer, Fourth Floor
Session Type: Professional Development
This session presents how one institution has successfully created a community of practice, the Active Learning Academy, as a deeply engaging professional development program that is transforming teaching. Over the past two years, a team of faculty, administrators, instructional designers, technologists, and an anthropologist worked together to put in place two active learning classrooms. While these teaching labs are brimming with impressive technologies, we have realized that their true potential for transforming teaching practices lies in the rich interdisciplinary conversations around pedagogy that have occurred among the faculty who use the space.

OUTCOMES: Learn how to replicate the academy model for faculty development and its potential for creating transformative change * Learn how to stimulate cross-disciplinary scholarship and conversations about teaching * Identify strategies for encouraging research about the scholarship of teaching and learning
