U.S. Postsecondary Faculty in 2015: Attitudes, Pedagogy, and Change

Monday, August 10, 2015 | 2:00PM–4:00PM
Session Type: Professional Development

There is a clear demand for change in U.S. higher education, driven by concerns for access, cost, and student success. In response, much significant innovation is already taking place. However, pedagogical change happens at the individual level, which encompasses variation in faculty members' goals, incentives, and pedagogical knowledge. To understand innovation, we need to understand faculty as creators, as adopters of new methods, and as frontline drivers of student success. The webinar will report on FTI's 2014 work with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Through a large-scale survey, we documented the landscape of faculty attitudes and pedagogical techniques, as well as insights into how adoption might be accelerated.
