Competency Based Education and Extended Transcripts

Session Type: Virtual
IMS Global members, collaborating with Competency-Based Education Network (C-BEN) and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), have defined two new data specifications for digital credentials and competency frameworks. The specification for extended transcripts (eT) complements credential validation efforts such as the Credentials Engine(c) and Blockcerts(tm) and is aligned with the Open Badge Infrastructure (OBI). eT supports multiple achievement types, including competencies, courses, co-curricular, certificates, and degrees. The specification for Competencies and Academic Standards Exchange (CASE) defines a common structure for competency frameworks and rubrics to help coordinate curricular and assessment practices. These new open standards empower learners to clearly articulate their achievements to employers.
