Teaching with technology: facilitating blended learning in medical education

Monday, March 28, 2016 | 2:00PM–4:00PM
Session Type: Professional Development

This presentation describes an initiative at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine that fosters teaching and learning environments where self-guided mobile learning is blended with enhanced face-to-face opportunities that promote deeper learning and high-impact educational practices. Traditionally, students rely upon passive learning styles in medical school introductory courses. To engage students with quality-controlled content that is mobile, self-paced, and learner-centered, we adopted a blended approach for course redesigns. Our approach uses short instructional videos coupled with companion self-assessment exercises that are aligned with learning objectives and prepares students for high-impact face-to-face sessions.
