Monday, March 18, 2013 | 2:00PM–3:15PM | Vevey, 2nd Floor
Session Type:
Professional Development
The performance of U.S. higher education in the second half of the last century was based on policies and assumptions established in the two decades following the end of World War II. Over the past two decades these assumptions about revenue, capacity, access, quality, and delivery are no longer appropriate. How should we respond to these irreversible changes? What kinds of strategies and what styles of leadership will sustain innovative transitions within higher education? Are there new revenue models? Can we provide a wider array of student pathways within higher education? How should we stimulate scalable innovation by providing a broader array of learning experiences? Can we adapt and apply more effectively to ourselves many of the critical innovations that we have provided to other sectors of our economy and society? During this session, Chancellor Ward will share his insights on these issues and questions based on his experiences as President of the American Council on Education and twice leading a public, land grant university during two very different funding environments.
