Full-Scale, Patron-Driven Acquisition of E-Books in Practice

Tuesday, March 29, 2011 | 4:00PM–4:50PM | Room 552 A
Session Type: NC11

Wellesley College Library has been running a successful e-book patron-driven acquisition (PDA) program since September 2009. PDA allows libraries to expand the content available to patrons while reducing costs for "just in case" ordering. Presenters will share their experiences planning and implementing a large-scale e-book PDA program. Attendees will leave with strategies to encourage their institutions to "take the leap" into e-book PDA, useful data to use to garner support, and a more solid understanding of how a PDA program for e-books might affect the functional areas of their libraries (cataloging, acquisitions, collection development, reference, etc.).
