Five Legal Considerations When Thinking about MOOCs

This presentation will examine five of the most important legal considerations institutions and faculty members encounter when contemplating participation in MOOCs. Among those examined will be some of the issues in relation to the terms and conditions of the contract between institutions and commercial platform providers, copyrights, privacy, and disability compliance.


OBJECTIVES: Understand the significance of the terms and conditions of the contract with the platform provider * Understand that MOOCs raise copyright questions for both faculty members and students * Understand that student privacy issues such as FERPA must be addressed * Understand that compliance with applicable disability laws is a consideration
