Crayons Aren't Just for Kids: One Institution's View on How to Do a SharePoint implementation

Tuesday, March 31, 2015 | 12:30PM–1:20PM | Room 554
Session Type: Professional Development
SharePoint has a reputation as a large, complex, and overwhelming application. UVM COM spent a year narrowing SharePoint down to a handful of tools that targeted pain points in our user community. Researchers and departments can now get up and running with a one-hour introduction to our highly templated, small toolset. We dubbed this our "small box of crayons" approach. We created a governance schedule as well as a low-key rollout to pull in interested parties and then let them be our marketing campaign. Permitting only specific features made learning SharePoint easier for the community and avoided creating a chaotic coloring book.

OUTCOMES: Recognize the power of observation * Appreciate the different points of view your community pilot groups bring to your implementation plans * Understand your limits, both support and infrastructure, and the importance of flexibility to your plans
