Librarians are essential resources for navigating innovation in research. Their role is to quickly learn and adapt to emerging technologies in order to assist researchers in their work. As AI transforms scholarly workflows, librarians must proactively collaborate closely with IT specialists and faculty to understand and effectively integrate these tools while maintaining ethical and academic integrity. Navigating the practical and ethical issues around AI has proved challenging for scholars and librarians alike. This session presents preliminary findings from our mixed-methods study—a systematic literature review combined with focus groups across students, faculty, librarians, and IT—analyzing the efficiency, accuracy, and ethical risks of generative AI in academic literature reviews. We will share the resulting Ethical Collaboration Model and Actionable Guidance designed to equip research librarians with the frameworks and confidence necessary to support students and faculty to use AI tools effectively, accurately, and responsibly.
