AI and the Common Good: Creating a Short Course for Students to Explore Ethics, Impact, and Responsible AI Use

Tuesday, March 10, 2026 | 11:30AM–12:15PM ET | Room 552 AB
Session Type: Breakout Session
Delivery Format: Presentation/Panel Session
This session provides an overview of the 90-minute “Ethical Considerations—Using Generative AI Responsibly at Bowdoin and Beyond” short course created as a prerequisite for students to gain access to its campus-provided AI tool, LibreChat. The course is designed to engage students in critical reflection and consideration of the ethics around the use of AI through curated multimedia content, assessments, and personal statements. The session will showcase the framework of this course, including learning materials and assessments, the learning design decisions, samples of student responses, use cases by faculty in the classroom, and the behind-the-scenes workflow in providing students access to LibreChat. We will also discuss the digital credential students receive and discuss how Bowdoin’s commitment to the common good shaped the course.
