Building a Student-Created Campus Hub: Connecting Local Needs with Global Design Ideas

During this session, we will share how we collaborated with students to design and build a commuter-friendly digital resource hub. The “Resource Central: Your New York Tech Guide to Transit & Campus Tools,” project brought together local campus needs, creative problem-solving, and global design thinking. The hub lives in Canvas and serves as a one-stop space for students to access helpful campus info like live weather and transit updates, subway maps, café menus, and a direct link to CampusGroups. What makes it unique is that it was co-built with students who helped shape the layout, choose tools, and integrate live widgets and maps through simple API connections. We’ll walk through how the project started, how we involved students from planning to launch, and how we used integrations to keep everything dynamic and current. Along the way, we’ll share lessons learned: what worked well, what surprised us, and how we plan to keep students engaged in future iterations.
