Modular AI Literacy: Building Skills in a No-Policy Campus Environment

Foundational AI literacy is essential for responsible, informed use of emerging tools, especially in higher education environments lacking a formal AI policy. This session explores the collaborative development of a modular, self-paced AI literacy course aligned with the ACRL Information Literacy Framework, NACE competencies, and emerging AI Literacy benchmarks. Designed by the library with input and piloting across campus stakeholders, the course—accessible via the CMS to faculty, students, and staff—features flexible learning pathways, badge-based assessment, and adaptable modules that can be copied for various instructional settings. Attendees will examine the course design process, explore instructional strategies, and consider approaches to this work amid evolving institutional practices and expectations.
