The Research Computing Organization: Roles and Staffing, Structure and Organization

Tuesday, January 28 | 3:15PM–4:00PM | Palm Ballroom AD
Session Type: Professional Development
Technology advances have made support for research computing one of the most fluid yet strategic innovation areas for research universities. New cyberinfrastructure capabilities in big data science, cross-institutional, high-performance computing enabled by ultrafast networks, and cloud computing have created unprecedented opportunities. Our deepest need in the coming years will be staffing to design and build these systems, including a new type of "research technology scientist" to provide technical and domain expertise in support of researchers' science and technology needs. This discussion will explore the structure, roles, and staffing that are needed to support the researching computing organization today and in the future.
