SEM01P-Accessibility and Your LMS (separate registration required)
Monday, March 11, 2013 | 2:00PM–5:30PM | Room 552
Session Type:
NC13
With several recent lawsuits against a number of colleges and universities for failure to comply with the American Disabilities Act's accessibility requirements for online technology (Section 508), your institution's leadership may be seeking reassurance about the compliance of your learning management system and other digital instructional materials. This half-day seminar is for anyone seeking to better understand the implications of ADA compliance and learn what can be done to address and promote accessibility of your institution's LMS and the teaching materials typically shared online. Whether your LMS is an open-source or a commercial product, there are opportunities for improving its usability for individuals with disabilities. In addition to having compliance questions answered, participants will be introduced to tools to analyze and assess both their LMS interface and digital content (text documents, PDFs, PowerPoints, etc.) for accessibility. Participants will also leave the seminar with simple universal design tips for creating and formatting teaching materials that can then be shared with instructors and other content creators.
