Adopting and Implementing an Open Access Resolution

Participants will learn about the open access alternative to traditional publishing, the path Wellesley College took to build support for and pass an open access resolution through the academic governance structure, and challenges faced as the policy begins to be implemented. Topics will include understanding the difference between "green" and "gold" open access, using waivers to accommodate author or publisher requirements, and understanding the importance of the institutional repository in this area.


OBJECTIVES: Understand the language typically used in open access resolutions * Learn about the process that an institution goes through in adopting an open access resolution * Learn about the challenges of implementing an open access program once the resolution has been adopted * Learn about open access more generally, including understanding distinctions between "green" and "gold" and other specifics
