MOOCs have undoubtedly been in the public discourse of higher education in the past two years. The original cMOOC focused on topics in the humanities in their inception, while xMOOCs seem to have their genesis in the teaching of STEM courses. One big area of interest is the harnessing of the MOOC to learn another language, or improve your command of another language. This poster will focus on the practicalities of setting up an ESL MOOC, as well as some hurdles that you may face when attempting to teach a language in the MOOC format.

OBJECTIVES: Be able to identify technological constraints with MOOCs that must be addressed in order for successful language learning to occur in a MOOC * Be able to identify pedagogical considerations of language learning as they apply to MOOCs * Be conversant in some aspects of implementing language learning through MOOCs
